CCT 01What the first visit needs to establish

Identify whether the work is a new walk-in, a refrigeration package replacement, an expansion or a fault investigation. Provide the manufacturer documents for the full package and note whether existing controls, remote units or alarms will be retained.

Discuss product protection with the business operator before selecting an interruption window. Electrical contractors restore or install supply; they do not decide whether food remains safe. AHS publishes specific food-facility outage guidance for that decision.¹ Keep the operator's responsible person involved in both planned and unexpected outages.

CCT 02What to include in the work order

Assign power feeds, controls interconnections, any alarm interface, equipment commissioning and product-temperature monitoring. State which parts are included by the refrigeration vendor and which are field-installed. Include the removal and isolation of old equipment when the system is being replaced.

CCT 03What changes the price and schedule

Supply compatibility, cable routes, remote equipment locations and continuity requirements affect cost. A business that can empty a cooler before work has a different sequence from one carrying stock throughout the change. Make that assumption visible in every quote.

Ask for an agreed response if start-up does not succeed within the planned window. That may involve alternate storage, vendor attendance or a revised work sequence; it should not depend on improvising an electrical connection. Set permit responsibility using the Calgary electrical process.

CCT 04Information to send with your request

• Complete refrigeration submittal, including remote equipment and accessories.
• Existing and proposed system arrangement and equipment locations.
• Refrigeration contractor, controls and alarm provider contacts.
• Operator-approved stock protection and temperature-recording plan.
• Maximum planned interruption and who makes the escalation decision.
• Supplier commissioning requirements and target return-to-service date.

CCT 05What a completed job should leave you with

Collect electrical completion records and the refrigeration vendor's commissioning information. The operator should retain its own temperature and food-safety decisions separately. Do not close the project solely because a compressor starts.

Record which party responds to power, controls, alarm and refrigeration faults. Test any agreed monitoring functions with the responsible vendors and ensure the operator understands the escalation process. These records are particularly valuable when a problem occurs outside the regular maintenance window.
